It is in times of need that we discover the full impact of a community United. As Hurricanes wreaked havoc on homes and communities across Texas, Louisiana, and Florida, we are reminded of the importance of local United Ways. With our unique position to organize long-term responses and solve community problems, the United Way network is leading efforts to help families from all walks of life who are now facing devastating losses.
While disasters like hurricanes may seem far removed from our region of Central Kentucky, it is important to remember that our community is facing crises of our own. Whether it is a lack of a workforce with the soft skills and personal stability needed to be successful in the many job opportunities available in our community or record numbers of children being removed from their homes because of abuse and neglect, we are also facing real and urgent challenges that require our united response.
United Way of Central Kentucky is uniquely positioned to take on these tough issues. Through our relationships with nonprofits, businesses, government, civic groups, and committed individuals, we embrace the work of solving costly community challenges by forging partnerships, mobilizing resources, and finding new solutions to old problems. Together we win by inspiring others to join the fight against our community’s most persistent problems and empowering individuals and families to reach their fullest potential.
Because of your support, we have changed the odds for people like Josh, who is working to obtain his GED with the help of a UWCK-funded Success Coach at Skills U. He has overcome barriers to pursue his GED, and upon his completion he can advance his education with a 2-year scholarship from his employer. Josh is just one of countless donors to United Way who have directly benefitted from their investments, which also create a positive ripple effect across our community as Josh’s financial stability and future career prospects improve.
We are proud to share the highlights of our work over the past several months, which was only made possible because of generous investors like you. As an independent nonprofit who receives no government funding or donations from outside our community, we are 100% reliant on those who believe in the critical importance of having a strong United Way in our region. We look forward to sharing future updates on the impact your investment has had and on plans to begin a new collaboration that will empower more families to secure and sustain employment.
The need to support United Way of Central Kentucky is more crucial than ever, and we hope you will join us to change the odds for the future of Hardin, Breckinridge, Grayson, LaRue, and Meade Counties.
