FAQ Tuesday: What does UWCK do outside Hardin County?

In order to keep our administrative costs as low as possible, we do not maintain separate offices and staff members in each of our five counties, which include Hardin, Breckinridge, Grayson, LaRue, and Meade.  However, we are proud that our team frequently works remotely to stay connected to local needs and are exploring the possibilities of establishing scheduled “office hours” across our region so we can have a consistent physical presence in each county we serve.  We are always looking for volunteers who can represent local interests on our Board of Directors, Community Investment Team, and other committees to ensure a variety of perspectives are reflected in our work.  We are committed to making the greatest impact with the resources entrusted to us, which means we have a regional allocations process that does not restrict counties to only receiving what they raised back in the form of grants.  For example, in one of our counties UWCK invests $3 in local programs for every $1 that is donated in that community.  You can view a breakdown of counties served by each of our agencies here, and are welcome to use this information in your workplace campaigns or other efforts to support UWCK.  In addition to our investments in local programs and agencies, we have placed AmeriCorps VISTA members at projects in all 5 counties, offer United Way Born Learning Academies at 8 schools in 4 counties, help multiple local Early Childhood Councils secure outside grants, and are members of numerous coalitions and Chambers of Commerce.  We moved Project United outside Hardin County for the first time in the program’s 6 year history, which benefitted the Grayson County Alliance and provided over 200 hours of service to put the finishing touches on their new facility.  You can also designate your gift to any of our 5 counties or any county served by a United Way if you want to direct your investment to a specific part of our service area.
