VITA volunteers prepare tax returns for low-income working families in our community free of charge, helping them save hundreds and return thousands to our local economy. VITA sites open at the end of January and will remain open for service through mid-April. Volunteers don’t need prior tax knowledge, as training is provided. In addition, each site is equipped with a VITA Site Coordinator who can provide assistance as needed.

As mentioned, training is mandatory and is available online or in-person. In-person training details are as follows:

VITA Basic Training: Saturday, January 13th. 9:00am to 4:00pm EST.
Location: United Way of Central Kentucky, 604 N Main Street, Elizabethtown.

VITA Advanced Training: Saturday, January 20th. 9:00am to 4:00pm EST.

Centered on the region’s current social service needs, this five-month program focuses on the examination of factors that prevent individuals and families from becoming self-sufficient, and explores how United Way of Central Kentucky is working to help overcome those barriers. With the purpose of the United Way Fellowship program being to create knowledgeable, networked, skilled, involved and passionate leaders, participants will meet for a monthly luncheon and United Way funded community partner tour. In its fifth year, the program also allows participants a unique opportunity to develop their leadership and professional skills by applying their talents to support United Way's mission by creating more opportunities for local children, individuals and families across the region.

This is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to learn more about what United Way is doing to help others in the community, however a limited number of Fellowship applications will be accepted for the 2018 program. The cost for those accepted to the Fellowship program will be $50 which covers expenses for all meals and materials. Applications can be completed by going to https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/PDBYN6G and the deadline to apply is March 9, 2018. Contact Katie with United Way for more information at kkurtz@unitedwayck.org or call 270-737-6608.
