AmeriCorps VISTA is the national service program designed specifically to fight poverty. VISTA members focus on building sustainable programs, they strengthen and support organizations by building infrastructure, and expanding community partnerships.

What are the benefits of becoming a VISTA?

  • Every VISTA who completes a full year of service receives:
  • A modest living stipend ($990/month)
  • Educational scholarship ($5,775) or end of service cash award ($1,500)
  • Relocation allowance
  • Basic health coverage
  • Childcare assistance
  • Student loan forbearance or deferment for qualifying loans
  • Non-competitive eligibility for federal employment in the year following service

United Way of Central Kentucky - Development & Communications VISTA

The Development and Communications VISTA will develop and implement a multimedia communications plan that will engage, inform and retain new and existing donors, volunteers and advocates by raising awareness of United Way of Central Kentucky’s impact in their communities. Aligning with the Community Impact model, the member will develop and implement a plan for communicating the results of UWCK’s Community Impact work to stakeholders on a quarterly basis. The VISTA member will build the capacity of United Way of Central Kentucky by leveraging cash and in-kind donations by analyzing individual donor, corporate, small business and workplace campaign accounts for development potential.

The Volunteer Engagement VISTA will support United Way of Central Kentucky’s Community Impact goals by effectively managing both casual and programmatic volunteer opportunities for UWCK and its’ community partners. Successful, collaborative coordination of these events will ensure their sustainability and build relationships with businesses that could increase the capacity of United Way of Central Kentucky to serve impoverished community members.
